Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons

Here we are again where the press fails spectacularly in fulfilling its function in a democratic society. Can’t even challenge people in power on basic shit. I hate to go here but this is more of a stream of consciousness situation: Trump. Mother fucker gets on the news after the latest UN Climate report sounds the alarm for the potential for a runaway greenhouse effect and the subsequent human migration and loss of life that might follow. The Buffoon in Chief no admits that he does not think that anthropogenic climate change is a hoax anymore… First of all, fuck you. Fuck you for ever thinking that it was a hoax. For thinking that the entire scientific establishment that we have developed and injected with all this investment of our hard earned tax dollars and who has brought us the modern age, over the last many decades, in which we enjoy would turn around and lie over and over just for the purpose of measly grants at the universities where they conduct their research. First of all, Occam’s Razor for one. What a convoluted stupid plot with almost no upside. And secondly, how does not ONE FUCKING REPORTER, one FUCKING peer corner him or any other deniers of the effect that carbon dioxide has on the trapping of infrared radiation in the atmosphere and a simple fucking question: Do you accept that matter is consists of protons, neutrons, or electrons? And that these entities obey the laws defined by electromagnetism, the strong and weak nuclear forces, and gravity? You know how everything in the universe maintains the relationship of constituent parts? YES, YES YOU DO, for it is these same laws that allow for all the technology of our modern age to function properly. It allows all the things that are being said and seen to be broadcast across space and time two televisions and radios all over the world. It is these same laws that were used as the blueprint for the cell phone in your pocket and buildings in which we work. It is these same laws that bind you to accept that the transfer of carbon compounds like CO2 and CH4 from under our feet into the atmosphere by human beings is drastically accelerating the rate of change the climate is experiencing. The same laws that you admitted to agreeing demonstrated by your acceptance that protons, neutrons, and electrons make up you and all that surrounds you. It is these laws that dictate that the organizational properties of the CO2 molecule. It is is these properties that necessitate that it absorbs more infrared wavelengths that are released by the earth every night after being heated by the sun during the day! Fuck you and fuck Exxon Mobil for continuing to sow doubt in the minds of the public when your own internal research admitted the nature of the problem in the 1970s. When for fuck sake there are articles that hinted at the long terms effects of releasing fossil fuels into the atmosphere in the mother fucking 1890s.

If the buffoon is willing to double down and disagree with the fact that matter is made of protons, neutrons, and electrons, they will be laughed out of the room. And rightly so. The era of cognitive dissonance is over. Those who concern themselves with our best conception of the truth can no longer allow people to hold two positions that are mutually exclusive any longer. If you do not accept the effect that burning fossil fuels has on the rate of change to our climate system well then guess what you don’t get to use a cell phone anymore because you are rejecting both the science that made that technology possible and the same science that makes anthropogenic climate change as much as a fact as anything can be. Please, I beg anyone in the journalistic establishment to ask any denier this simple fucking question which they will have to admit is the truth and be caught in their self-serving lie. To line their pockets with money serving special interests while their children will have to foot the bill. Not only for our massive debt but for the cost of moving hundreds of millions of people away from coastal cities.

There is a meager argument that it is too late and we should not invest in minimizing the problem but only in mitigating the side effects. But if the word ‘country’ is to mean anything and being as we as a country are mostly responsible for the situation that humanity finds itself in, wouldn’t it be so noble of this country and the people who have descended from the previous people who were here who seem to think that that is such a big fucking deal (though I tend to think of it as an inconsequential fact since you have no choice over your ancestors, ok they are interesting historically but I really don’t give a shit who these people were other than that they made it to an age where they could procreate and lead to my eventual existence. This is the only reason they have any relation to me.)… But wouldn’t it be so noble of us to actually fix this problem if we could utilize the technology to capture carbon out of the air (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2014/oct/01/canada-switches-on-worlds-first-carbon-capture-power-plant) and throw the money at it that is required? How much would it be to develop this on a global scale, a $100 billion maybe? What does $100 billion dollars even mean anymore? Not to mention how if we would have adequately funded nuclear fusion technology like we were supposed to we would have clean limitless energy from seawater by now. The short-sightedness of our species and our political institutions is a fucking joke at this point. We waste so much fucking money, whether it’s the trillions of dollars on the Iraq war or the absurd amount of money we spend on fighter jets that don’t work, being able to fine-tune the atmosphere to our liking seems like where we should be investing our resources. The upside is almost unfathomable, controlling the climate with our own thermostat of sorts. Squad goals for fuck sake. After which we can claim credit for solving a problem that “we” created.

You would think that DARPA would be all over this instead of spending all their money building a robot army in case it needs to go up against the robot army that China is building. Further, if we were able to scale this technology up to mitigate and overcome the transfer of carbon into the atmosphere, we could forever put Russia on ice. Tell me the neocons wouldn’t cum a little in their pants at the promise of some James Bond villain shit. That is all.
